People are living longer and many seniors prefer to stay in their homes as long as possible.

While more services are available today to seniors living at home including lawn care, meal delivery, companionship, transportation, grocery delivery, medication delivery, online shopping, and nursing care, there comes a time for most people when makes it makes sense to move to a senior community. Communities for active adults 55+ years old are becoming more common, attracting seniors to their “downsized” homes. In addition, there are many other types of senior living communities.

Mold has been around since life began on earth. The first thing to understand about mold is that there is a little mold everywhere – indoors and outdoors. It’s in the air and can be found on plants, foods, dry leaves, and other organic materials. Fortunately, in Colorado, the air is so dry we typically don’t have too many problems with mold. However, any place where there is stagnant water, oxygen, and a food source, mold can start growing.  The most extreme example of mold in homes I have ever seen was when I visited New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I was on a team building Habitant for Humanity homes in a subdivision where most of the homes had to be bulldozed because of mold. These homes were encased in mold, inside and out.

Transportation and housing go hand in hand as critical components of infrastructure and quality of life. In Boulder, citywide enthusiasm for biking and alternative transportation came into sharp focus on the 42nd annual Bike to Work Day held June 27. Beginning at 6:30 a.m., thousands took to their pedal-powered wheels – or simply their feet – to go from home to work. In strong support, local companies and organizations hosted nearly 50 breakfast stations, keeping Boulder riders and walkers well fueled on their morning commute.

At the corner of Canyon Boulevard and Folsom, commuters were energized at such a station. Sponsored by RE/MAX of Boulder with Embassy Suites Boulder and Hilton Garden Inn, they treated riders to a hydrating Skratch Labs

Contracts used at new home subdivisions or by custom home builders for the construction of a new home, are not the standard Colorado Real Estate Commission approved form. Since these contracts are usually written by the builder’s attorney, in the builder’s favor, the buyer is well advised to have their attorney review any contract for the purchase of new construction. If a property is substantially complete, a custom builder will sometimes allow the Realtor to prepare the contract using the Colorado Real Estate Commission approved form. Oftentimes, even if a home is 100% complete, most new home subdivisions will not accept contracts other than the one that has been prepared specifically for that subdivision.
