Boulder ranks fourth among U.S. cities with the most high-tech jobs, according to a study by 24/7 Wall St. Denver-Aurora-Lakewood is No. 15 on the top 15 list.

Known as a leader in the tech-sector, Boulder is one of 15 major metropolitan areas with at least 9 percent of the workforce employed in STEM – science, technology, engineering and math fields.

STEM jobs are in computing, manufacturing, engineering, health care and other area, and come with better pay and job security, says a Pew Research Center study. One area of focus for high tech jobs is artificial intelligence and automation. About a quarter of U.S. jobs could be replaced by advanced technology, reports the nonprofit public policy organization Brookings Institution.

A “snowbird” is defined as a Northerner who has two homes. Snowbirds move to a warmer southern state in the winter. Then when things heat up down south in the summer, the snowbirds migrate back to northern climes. For Colorado snowbirds, Arizona is a favorite destination since it’s such a short trip by car or plane. During May, snowbirds return from Arizona and other sunny spots to roost in Colorado for the summer.

If you’re thinking about becoming a snowbird, here are a few tips for making the most of the snowbird experience.

Pick the right place to buy your snowbird home.

Assess what you like to do. If you’re a beachgoer, Arizona won’t work, but it’s a great place for golf and the Rockies Spring Training.

Is your part-time home easy to

There is a serious shortage of homes in Boulder, as is evidenced by the roughly 65,000 people who commute in and out of Boulder on a daily basis.  About half of these people would live in Boulder if they could, but are forced to “drive until they qualify” for a home, which increases their carbon footprint, commute times, and overall stress level.  It is clear that creative solutions are needed to address this crucial issue.

The Boulder City Council’s proposed pilot program to “help” middle income families purchase market rate homes is, while creative, a Faustian bargain, in my opinion.  In the current iteration supported by members of the city council, the city would use a “loan-loss reserve fund” to guaranty

Boulder County has a rich history and residents actively want to preserve aspects of that past. Every May, Boulder County’s legacy is honored during Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month, which features talks, exhibits, photography, historic walk, community clean up, and workshops for the community.

In 1974, the City of Boulder created the Historic Preservation program in response to a citizen-driven effort to recognize and protect buildings and sites important to Boulder’s history. Initially, five individual landmarks were designated, and in 1978 Floral Park was the first historic district established within the city. Since the beginning of the program, more than 1,300 properties have been preserved including nearly 200 individual landmarks

Boulder County real estate sales overcame March’s bomb cyclone, kicking off spring home buying with a significant increase in month-over-month sales.

Single-family home sales spiked 51.3 percent with 351 Boulder-area homes sold in March compared to 232 in February. Condo/townhome sales rose even more, jumping 62.8 percent for the month with 127 units sold vs. 78.

“It’s still early, but I’m glad to see March sales ended on a high note as we head into peak season over the next 3-4 months,” says Ken Hotard, senior vice president of public affairs for the Boulder Area Realtor® Association.

Even with the significant March rise, sales year-to-date lag last year, dropping 9.3 percent through March 2019 for single-family – 786 vs. 867 homes sold,

If you don’t have a CLUE, don’t be embarrassed! Most Americans don’t have a CLUE and have never heard of the CLUE database, but if you are a home buyer or home seller, it’s probably a good idea to get a CLUE!

Get a CLUE!  What’s a CLUE? Do you have a CLUE?

CLUE stands for Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange. The exchange is a claims history database generated by LexisNexis enabling insurance companies to access claims information on a property before they underwrite, rate, or quote an insurance policy. The exchange will list insurance losses on a property going back seven years. The majority of home insurance companies contribute records of their losses to the database.

As a home buyer, should I get a CLUE?
