Having been recently installed as Immediate Past President of the Boulder Area REALTOR® Association (BARA), I am happy to report that the year during my term as President was a very good one! Is that because the Boulder market is so hot or because REALTORS® in Boulder are busier than ever, you ask? Those things are definitely true, but that is not what I am talking about.
The theme for my year as Board President was “Gratitude and Giving Back.” After all, REALTORS® are a caring part of this community and we are dedicated to making it stronger: we live here, raise our kids here; we care about schools, the environment, and all of the things that go along with living in one of the most beautiful places in the U.S. I am a firm believer that giving back to the community will make it a better place for us all.
What did we do this year? First, we set a goal of organizing four major volunteer days and monthly donations to local nonprofits. We scheduled events that would touch on something for everyone. Our four key events were:
1.) Share-A-Gift: BARA members participated in collecting, organizing, and distributing toys for low-income kids during the holidays.
2.) Junior Achievement Finance Park: BARA members participated in leading two days at the Junio Achievement Finance Park, which helps middle school and high school kids learn the importance of budgeting through a hands-on experiential process.
3.) Project HOME: BARA members teamed up with Boulder County Care Connect to clean up the yards of 18 elderly folks in our area.
4.) Humane Society of Boulder Valley: BARA members volunteered during the Doggie Dash to set up, clean up, course marshal, and bring our dogs to help benefit the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
Each month we offered a "Take a Moment" process for our REALTORS®. The idea being that if everyone would take a moment to do a little, it would make a big impact for local nonprofits. We highlighted several different organizations and were able to make donations in the forms of donated items or cash. A few of the recipients included: Share-A-Gift, EFAA, Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, Sister Carmen Community Center, Community Food Share, Cell Phones for Soldiers, and Attention Homes.
In addition to these events, our BARA Young Professional Network also taught classes at local high schools through our Smart Money, Smart Moves programs which taught high school students about credit and financing, and the best practices and pitfalls when renting your first place.
Deepest thanks to the Boulder Area REALTOR® Association (BARA) members for their outstanding participation and support in giving back to our community. We are all stronger for it.
