LOUISVILLE RANKS #1 among best small towns to live in America

Two Boulder County communities and five Colorado towns in all landed on MONEY magazine’s 100 Best Places to Live with populations of less than 50,000 people, with Louisville taking the top spot.

According to MONEY, seven of its reporters spent months combing through reams of data provided by OnBoard Informatics and other sources and fanning out across the country to identify small towns (those with populations of less than 50,000) that stand out in the qualities American families care about most.

The reporters believe they found best combination of job opportunities, fiscal strength, top-notch schools, safe streets, good healthcare, cultural and outdoor activities, even nice weather, with Louisville scoring highest on its scale.

With a population of 18,400 and unemployment rate of 6.3 percent, MONEY describes Louisville as a “sunny, lively mountain town” that’s “safe (crime rates are among the lowest in Colorado) and easy to navigate. Lots of good jobs in tech, telecom, aerospace, clean energy, and health care can be found right in Louisville, and more are on their way. And there's world-class mountain biking, hiking and skiing in the nearby Rockies. Real estate prices have barely budged since 2005, yet a typical three-bedroom house here still runs less than a comparable one in nearby Boulder. Its schools consistently rank among the top three academically in the Denver area."

Superior, population 12,900, rounded out the top 20 Best Places to Live, described as a “cyclist’s dream” with the Morgul Classic bike race and a new BMX bike park, affordable housing and access to a high-performing school district.

Castle Rock (population 37,200) landed at No. 19, while Parker came in at No. 29 and Black Forest at No. 66.
