Want to get to know our Realtors better? Our Realtor Spotlight Series highlights fun facts about them! This week we talk with our superb Realtor Karla Bielanski.

What’s one of the most interesting things you’ve done in your life?

I have had the pleasure of traveling all my life. Seeing the unique beauty and awe of lush jungles in Central America, crashing oceans and vibrant markets of Mexico, historic places of Europe, the chatter of Spanish and French, as well as all that America offers is a feast for the senses. Seeing how people in other countries live and think is a mind-expanding experience and we realize how much we are the same underneath it all. Now my young son (pictured above) travels with me too!

Who inspires you?

My grandmother. She was a delightful, charming person and a quite a mover considering she was a woman in business starting in the 1950s. She was a real estate investor and started a travel agency, which she owned and ran for over 30 years. Grandma was always gathering friends or our family for big trips she would organize and lead all over the world. She was also known for orchestrating a big Goodwill event (as a 50- year volunteer) or throwing a party. She charged in without hesitation in her chirpy, lighter-than-air kind of way that somehow moved mountains. Her favorite line for my sister and me was “Girls! Do what you want. You can’t go around worrying that something bad is going to happen all the time!”

Is there a fact no one would ever guess about you?

When I was in my 20s, I spent a summer spelunking, a.k.a., caving, in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area, an intricate network of caves north of Glenwood Springs. My boyfriend was accomplished at this and had the combination to a locked 8-mile cave called Groaning Cave. Climbing, slithering, and rappelling inside the caves was an athletic feat for me – and finding huge glittering crystals and underground rivers was fascinating. That was until I realized: 1.) I could easily die down there in total darkness and, 2.) my boyfriend didn’t want to come out into the light of day to do much of anything else! Next!

What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been

Do you have a favorite nonprofit you’re involved with or donate to and wish more people knew about?

Children’s Hospital is near and dear to me after my baby had surgery there years ago. The kindness and caring of everyone – from the doctors to the janitor – are legendary! I am a fan and donor!
