REALTOR®’S Guide to Recreation in Boulder County

RE/MAX of Boulder radio keeps you and your clients up to date on trails in Boulder County as well as Boulder Open space.  This week, Duane Duggan hosted Suzanne Webel from the Boulder Area Trails Coalition or BATCO.

One of the major strengths that draws so many people to Boulder County is the active lifestyle that thrives throughout the open space and public lands. The Boulder Area Trails Coalition, created in 1996, was originally a collection of all non-motorists, hikers, bikers, bird watchers and fish catchers who used the public trails in Boulder.  Since then, BATCO has become a resource for the community and a trusted advisor for the city of Boulder.  This non-profit is the only one of it’s kind in this area and it strives to maintain and develop the trails that web through and around Boulder County.

Suzanne Webel, a learned geologist and a map enthusiast has undertaken the very difficult mission of mapping out all the trails in Boulder County over many years.  The final product is an impressively comprehensive map of all trails in Boulder, color coded to indicate the various types of trails and what areas are zoned as open space. It was first introduced in 2006.

Since then the maps have been wildly successful, providing great information for the outdoor enthusiast or anyone new to the area.  In our RE/MAX of Boulder office alone, there were 550 maps bought in only 2 days!  In addition to being a great resource, all the proceeds go directly to the maintenance of Boulder County trails.

As a REALTOR®, being a trustworthy resource about your city is essential, and the knowledge provided by BATCO is sure to keep you in the loop about the changes in public lands around Boulder.  Many agents in our office have also acquired these maps as client gifts, perfect for the avid explorers drawn to live in Boulder.

To find out what the future of these trails hold and what else is included on the comprehensive map listen to this week’s episode below.  To learn more about BATCO, volunteer opportunities, or where to find their maps please visit
