Having lived in Boulder most of her life, Lisa Wade graduated from CU Boulder in 1982 and joined the RE/MAX of Boulder team in 1996. Since she began her career, Wade has become a distinguished professional within the industry, receiving BARA’s President’s Award in 1997, 2008, and 2011, and REALTOR® of the Year in 2013. Today, she serves as the president of the Boulder Area REALTOR® Association and is highly involved in giving back to the community through various community service projects and leadership roles.
With each new installment, the president of BARA decides on an overarching theme as a platform for that particular year. This year, Wade has chosen the theme of gratitude. “You know, we had just come off a pretty tough market situation, so back in 2009 and 2010 when things were tough, we didn’t do a whole lot for the community… What we should do now is just be grateful and give back to the community that has served us so well in our careers,” says Wade.
“My platform for this year is to give back to the community through community service with our members.”
During her installation ceremony in 2013, Wade made “incredible Presidential promises” says Duggan, and announced four different projects she would implement (one per quarter) to give back to the community. These projects include Share-A-Gift, Junior Achievement Finance Park, Project Home, and the Doggie Dash.
The first project, which focused on young children and took place last December, was the Share-A-Gift toy drive. Share-A-Gift has been in Boulder for about forty years now, and serves the community as the distributors for Toys-For-Tots. The organization collects donated toys, both new and used, and gives them to needy kids in the area. This past December, 35 REALTORS® volunteered.
The second project was the Junior Achievement Finance Park, which took place in February. This program focused on middle school kids and was a great hands-on participatory event that teaches them how to read balance sheets and budget finances for essentials such as housing, transportation, and food. This past February, 120 kids participated in the event along with 25 REALTORS®.
The third project, Project Home, has been a tradition of the Board of REALTORS® since the 1980s. Originally, HOME was an acronym for “Help Our Many Elderly” and this program focuses on serving senior citizens by providing chores and yard clean up at their homes during spring and summer. This year’s “yard-busting” will take place on June 4th with the help of Lisa and 100 other REALTORS®.
Every September, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley hosts the Doggie Dash, which is a 5K run with your dog. This year, the 5K event will take place on September 5th at the Boulder Reservoir starting at 9am and BARA is supporting this cause.
“If everyone just does a little bit it can be super impactful and make a big difference.”
During the short amount of time in between her many projects, Wade and BARA’s Board of Directors have decided to “Take a Moment.” Every month, the Board chooses a different, very deserving local nonprofit for cash donations or donations of staple items such as clothes, home goods, etc. So far the program has been successfully involved with local organizations including The Sister Carmen Community Center, Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, EFAA, Attention Homes, and Bridge House.
